Discovering Sabor Latino: A Hidden Gem in Spartanburg

If you ever find yourself cruising down Asheville Highway in Spartanburg, SC, keep your eyes peeled for Sabor Latino. Nestled next to a gas station and liquor store, this unassuming eatery serves up a delightful fusion of Colombian and Honduran cuisine. Don’t let the exterior fool you; stepping inside reveals a warm and welcoming atmosphere that feels like a slice of Latin American homestyle cooking.

Why You Should Visit

Sabor Latino has captured the hearts of locals and travelers alike, thanks to its authentic dishes and friendly service. Word on the street highlights the amazing tamales—both chicken and beef varieties—offered at just $3.00. You can’t go wrong with the mouthwatering plátano relleno con carne (sweet plantain filled with beef) at $9.50 or the crowd-pleasing baleadas, available in both simple and everything options at $3.00 and $6.00, respectively.

Genuine Flavor at Affordable Prices

  • Tamales Hondurenos de Carne: Beef tamal for $3.00—perfectly seasoned and comforting.
  • Sencillas Baleadas: Simply baleadas for $3.00—simple yet satisfying.
  • Pastelitos de Pollo: Chicken turnovers at $9.50—crispy and packed with flavor.
  • Queso Pupusas: Cheese pupusas for $3.50—a cheesy delight!

This isn’t just another stop for fast food. According to James Knicely, it’s a “gem” that offers flavorful dishes expertly prepared for your selecting. You’ll find the staff welcoming and eager to help. Although most of the team communicates primarily in Spanish, the menu features plenty of pictures, ensuring you’ll find something delicious to satisfy your cravings.

A Dining Experience to Remember

The ambience adds character to your meal. Many patrons describe it as a “hole in the wall,” but that only enhances its charm. Reviews suggest that the quality of the food surpasses expectations, with Michael Alva raving about their beans and chorizo, while Fritz Butehorn and his family noted the generous portion sizes and scrumptious leftovers.

If you're anything like Carlos Daniel Suarez, who appreciated the cozy, homey vibe, you'll likely feel transported to the heart of Latin America with every bite. Plus, if you’re in the mood for something sweet, be sure to ask about their desserts—part of the experience includes learning about these delightful options from the owner.

Final Thoughts

Sabor Latino may not be a polished establishment, but it thrives on authenticity, flavor, and community. As you enjoy your meal, consider the joy of discovering a place where heritage is celebrated through culinary craft. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this restaurant offers a flavorful escape that will keep you coming back for more.

Don't let the look of the adjacent gas station or liquor store scare you off. This place is a gem. Food is awesome with Honduran and Colombian takes on many different dishes, prepared to your choosing. Super helpful and friendly staff and a great community spot and place to eat. The food is delicious and authentic. Definitely recommend it if you live around here or are just looking for something that isn't fast food on your way down 85.

Wow. Looks like a complete dump on the outside but don’t let that fool you. I had to drag my parents in because it looked sketch. This might be one of the best iterations of this dish that I’ve had. The beans are to die for. The chorizo was incredible. Everyone loved their plate. Completely surprised and will be back again!!

Delicious food! Highly recommend. Very impressed with the good quality food, cooking, and service. Most of the staff speak only Spanish, but their menu has lots of pictures so you can always get what you want. The owner is fluent in English though and is there most of the time. He did a great job explaining their desserts to us. Overall, a great experience eating here.

They were not taking cards, only cash and payments through the app Zelle. The food was really good.
